Back in January of this year, we were among the first to listen to Emotiva's new Airmotiv line of speakers. We sat down in a swanky hotel room at the Venetian and were told "this is going to get loud" by none other than Damon Steele (Emotiva's ever enthusiastic, dedicated "demo guy").
As we watched a segment of Transformers: Dark of the Moon (thanks Michael Bay...), it quickly became clear, this speaker line wasn't an afterthought, it was always part of Emotiva's plan for total home domination! In all seriousness though, they sounded great! The folded AMT tweeter has always been a staple component for Emo, and I'm happy to report that it hasn't changed with the addition of a passive crossover. The extended yet never offensive highs are still there, but this time coupled to a dedicated 5.25" CURV (a woven polypropylene) midrange, and a pair of 6.5" woofers of the same material. Cabinet construction is excellent, and just to remind us that this speaker is only "cheap" in price, the supplied grills are all affixed magnetically. This series is a winner....seriously.
The market for affordable, high performance speakers is growing faster than any other segment, thanks in part to the contributions of designers like Andrew Jones of ELAC and Lonnie Vaughan of Emotiva. While there may be no shortage of excellent speakers at this price point, Emotiva continues to push the boundaries of what can be done without breaking the bank.
Our initial stock of the entire Airmotiv series is slated to arrive on August the 18th. Place your order now, and we'll ship out as soon as they arrive!
